Fantasy Football - The Basics by Jenny Mather

Fantasy Football is a fantasy sports game in which participants (called "owners"), arranged into a league, each draft or acquire via auction a team of real-life American football players and then score points based on those players' statistical performance on the field. Fantasy football players are divided on the value of having IDP in their leagues. Fantasy Football has had a net positive benefit in increased knowledge of players at all positions, not just the most popular positions. Fantasy football allows this dream to become a (virtual) reality. Leagues can be arranged in which the winner is the team with the most total points at the end of the season, or in a head-to-head format (which mirrors the actual NFL) in which each team plays against a single opponent each week, and at the end of the year the team with the best win-loss record wins the league. For more serious competition, you can easily set up your roster by using the latest ‘Drag and Drop’. Eligible positions are highlighted when a player is selected. This quickly puts players in the right roster or bench slot. There are also Personalised Fantasy Alerts, Injury alerts and Lineup alerts when inactive players are starting for your team. Roster alerts are when managers in other leagues are dropping your players. You can manage your team together with a friend or a family member. Give your co-manager full access or restrict their permissions. Double the fun and half the sorrow! Make your League a Legacy. Register a custom web address (URL) for your league and set the previous seasons of your league to show the former winners. Display record performances (available when the season starts). Invite friends from previous leagues. Custom League URL, a permanent URL that is yours to keep. Display the results of previous seasons. A typical fantasy league will employ players from a single football league, such as the NFL or an NCAA division. Just like in real football, each year fantasy football leagues have a draft (note: in dynasty leagues, this normally consists of NFL rookies only), in which each team drafts NFL players. In most leagues, no player may be owned by more than one team, (although some leagues do allow for this). Some leagues mandate that a dropped player cannot be claimed for a given period of time, so although he is on the "waiver wire" (not on a team), he is not technically a free agent right away.
